McNaughty Joins Dumb Guys Do Racing to Talk NRL Season 8, GT7 Physics, Upshift Media & More

I’m back with the Dumb Guys Do Racing crew, and this time there was plenty to talk about.

Dumb Guys Do Racing Episode 184 — “McNaughty in the Studio: NRL Season 8 Revealed” — is out now, with a wide-ranging conversation covering Naughty Racing League, the work happening behind the scenes for Season 8, Upshift Media, the latest Gran Turismo 7 physics changes and quite a bit more.

NRL Season 8

Naturally, a big part of the conversation was Naughty Racing League.

Season 8 is getting closer, and we talked about where NRL is today, how the league continues to evolve, and some of what has been happening behind the scenes ahead of the new season.

Seven seasons in, NRL has grown well beyond simply putting together a grid and going racing. The broadcasts, driver stories, rivalries, community, partnerships and production surrounding each season have become a major part of what makes the league what it is.

Season 8 is another step forward.

We got into some of that on the show — although I’m still keeping a few things under wraps until it’s time to reveal them properly.

Building Beyond the League

The conversation also moved into Upshift Media and some of the work being done outside of NRL itself.

We talked about sim racing content, broadcasting, presentation and the opportunities that exist when you start treating online motorsports as more than simply a collection of races.

NRL has been a huge part of that journey, but there is a much bigger ecosystem surrounding sim racing, its communities and the people creating content around it.

So… About Those New GT7 Physics

Of course, we also had to talk about one of the more polarizing subjects in the Gran Turismo community right now: GT7’s new physics.

The latest changes have generated no shortage of opinions.

Some drivers love them. Some absolutely do not. And plenty of people are still relearning cars they thought they understood.

We got into how the cars feel now, what we like, what we don’t, and what a substantial physics change means when you’re trying to organize competitive league racing around the game.

As you might expect from Dumb Guys Do Racing, nobody was particularly afraid to have an opinion.
